The first step toward heat pump financing is completing a no-cost home mass save heat pump contractors energy assessment and getting a HEAT Loan Intake Form from the Mass Save office. This will give you a clear idea of how much you can save with your new heat pump, and if you’re eligible for the financing available through Mass Save.

Once you’ve received your Intake Form and are ready to move forward, it’s time to apply for a HEAT Loan from one of the many lenders on the Mass Save lender list. There are a variety of lenders, including banks and credit unions that focus on clean energy upgrades. There are a few steps involved in the application process, but they’re fairly simple and don’t require extensive research or specialized knowledge about your home’s energy efficiency needs. Once you’ve completed the online HEAT Loan application, you’ll need to provide a copy of your Intake Form to your chosen lender.

In addition to the HEAT Loan Intake Form, you’ll need a valid AHRI reference number for your air source or ground source heat pump and the model numbers for all of the indoor units in your new system. It’s a good idea to use the AHRI reference number as your starting point, because it will help you avoid delays in submitting this important paperwork.

Using the AHRI reference number will make the HEAT Loan process much quicker, since their staff can verify that your equipment meets the program’s efficiency requirements. They can also help you figure out the most appropriate size for your system, as well as other relevant information that you may need to submit in order to qualify for the Mass Save heat pump rebates and income-enhanced reimbursements.

It’s also a good idea to weatherize your home before installing your new heat pump, as this can add an additional layer of comfort and insulation to your space. This is especially true if you’re going to be switching from an old furnace to a heat pump.

In fact, the weatherization process is often used as an opportunity to upgrade your home’s insulation and air sealing, too! This will ensure that your new heat pump can operate at peak efficiency, and reduce your overall electricity bill. This can save you money even after you’ve gotten your Mass Save heat pump rebate, so it’s worth taking the extra step to weatherize before a heat pump is installed!
